Consultation for future reviews of research in education: the
EPPI Centre seeks your views.
The Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre)
is based at the Social Science Research Unit (SSRU), Institute of Education, University of
London. The EPPI-Centre provides centralised resources and support for those wishing to
undertake systematic reviews of research on a range of policy and practice issues in
education (0-19 years). Systematic reviews provide an explicit way of bringing together
research findings from different studies. The final reviews will be a useful resource for
users and potential users of research in that they will provide easily accessible
information about what is known, as well as what gaps need to be filled in.The initiative was commissioned by the Department
for Education and Skills, and currently the EPPI-Centre supports 10 Review Groups (RGs)
undertaking reviews within different topics. The broad topic areas for the RGs are:
assessment and learning research; continuing professional development; early years;
English education; inclusive education; gender and education; modern foreign languages;
participation in post-compulsory education; school leadership and management; and thinking
skills.
Each RG will conduct at least one review a
year to address a specific question within their topic area. For example, the English
review is on What is the impact of ICT on literacy learning?
