Achieving Excellence in the Early Years: A conference for primary heads and leaders

Handouts available for download

About the conference

With the introduction of the separate Early Years Ofsted judgement in primary schools, headteachers and leaders will be considering how they support and develop outstanding provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

This event will focus on a number of key issues for primary heads and leaders in relation to nursery and reception classes in schools:

  • identifying and encouraging outstanding practice in the EYFS
  • what good teaching looks like in the early years
  • how reception classes can most effectively support children’s learning in developmentally appropriate ways and provide a sound foundation for future learning
  • effective transition into the Foundation Stage, and from Reception to Year 1, including appropriate transition of pedagogy
  • guidance on the new arrangements for baseline assessment
  • the evidence base and principles underlying high quality early years practice
  • key aspects of leading and managing a successful Foundation Stage, including balancing the competing pressures on Reception classes

Who is it for?

This conference is aimed at primary school headteachers, leaders, governors and teachers with responsibility for the Early years Foundation Stage, including those who are not themselves early years specialists, who would like to extend and update their knowledge on current best practice in relation to the EYFS.
