Adventures Everywhere - Exploring art and literacy outdoors

A walk to the park, a stroll around a garden, working in the school grounds: we can find stories everywhere. This workshop sets out to offer activities to create stories out of found objects, by counting footsteps, by watching the weather and looking for clues. Here are quick activities to use with younger children to create stories, adding structure, characters and description as we go. From animal adventures to the wildest monsters, we’ll make up our own adventures and then look at ways of recording ideas to encourage children to tell those stories back again, sharing their imaginations with each other and with older audiences.

Gordon’s company, Creeping Toad, sets out to find ways of helping people explore and express their relationship with the world around them. A writer, visual artist and storyteller, Gordon works across age groups and across the UK and abroad. Recent Early Years activity includes Stories Alive!,embedding story making in the teaching of 5 nursery schools in Burnley and long term working relationships with infant schools in Bacup and Nelson.
