How Children Learn

The  statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (DfE, 2012)  makes it mandatory for practitioners in England to support learning and development through promoting the characteristics of effective early learning - play and exploring, active learning, and creating  and thinking critically. Practitioners must also report on how children demonstrate these characteristics as part of the revised EYFS profile.

This course gives delegates opportunities to explore:

  • Brain development birth to five
  • The characteristics and self-regulation
  • How the characteristics relate to the prime and specific areas
  • Effective practice in observing, assessing and planning for:
  • Playing and Exploring
  • Active Learning
  • Creating and Thinking Critically
  • Completing the characteristic section of the EYFS Profile

The day will be a mix of input and active learning, enabling participants to gain new knowledge, work with colleagues, discuss concerns and reflect on practice in their own settings
