Mindset, motivation and metacognition

Aims and objectives - Delegates will have opportunities to:

  • explore what is meant by terms such as mindset, dispositions, motivation and thinking skills in the early years,
  • explore the evidence base underpinning these concepts,
  • consider practical ways that we can promote young children’s metacognitive skills and promote positive dispositions to learn,
  • consider the role of the practitioner in supporting young children’s metacognition and thinking skills, particularly through opportunities for sustained shared thinking
