Reading for mindfulness and well-being

An interactive course suitable for early years practitioners, literacy leaders, nursery, reception and key stage 1 teachers and library staff. We will explore the value of books and reading for children’s mental health and identify strategies for using them effectively.

Expected learning outcomes

  • develop a deeper understanding of the links between reading and mindfulness and well-being
  • gain new methods for harnessing books and reading to explore issues
  • identify ideas for using books to develop children’s empathy and celebrate difference
  • discover tips for exploiting books to help children understand emotions and relationships
  • explore ways to utilise books to build self-esteem and resilience, and reduce anxiety
  • provide an introduction to a wide range of books that can support children’s mental health
