Getting into a Routine: A balance between adult and child initiated activities in the EYFS

Course outline:


  • The EYFS states that providers must ensure that there is a balance of adult-led and freely chosen or child initiated activities. This workshop will look at how practitioners make the most effective use of time to support children’s learning and development day by day


By the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • Understand the rationale for having a consistent, flexible daily routine
  • Describe the typical components of a day in the EYFS
  • Take away ideas to help children learn what the routine is
  • Review the adult role during child initiated play
  • Examine what makes adult led activities developmentally appropriate
  • Assess your current daily routine

Audience: EY Practitioners working with children birth – 60+ months, PVI settings/schools, Childminders, Independent and maintained schools
