Early Education started out as the Nursery Schools Association and although now open to all types of early years practitioners and settings, we retain a core strand of activity around helping the small number of remaining maintained nursery schools to survive and thrive.
We provide a number of networking opportunities for maintained nursery schools in England. Including:
- a closed online discussion group
- periodic regional networking meetings (see events page for details)
We also campaign, through the All Party Parliamentary Group on Nursery Schools and Nursery Classes.
DfE position on published admisions numbers (PANs) and local authorities' funding maintained nursery schools and nursery classes - The DfE have confirmed that local authorities cannot set a limit on the number of places they will fund in nursery schools and nursery classes.
Maintained Nursery Schools: State of Play report
With funding from the City of London Corporation, we produced a report documenting the current situation for maintained nursery schools: how many are left, what their funding and staffing situation is and what services they offer above and beyond early education. Read the press release and download the report.
