Areas of expertise
Helen Moylett is an independent early years consultant and writer and has a national reputation as an inspirational conference speaker. Early in her career she worked in schools as a primary, early years and home school liaison teacher, a local authority senior advisory teacher and then as a senior lecturer in primary and early years education at Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2000 she became head teacher of an early years centre. As a head teacher she was a Birth to Three Matters national trainer and researcher. From 2004-2011 she worked for the National Strategies and was centrally involved in developing the Early Years Foundation Stage and led the Every Child a Talker programme nationally. She was an expert adviser to the Tickell EYFS review team and co-authored ‘Development Matters’ with Nancy Stewart. Helen has written and edited several early years books – most recently Characteristics of Effective Early Learning (OU Press). She tutors on the M.A and PGCE courses at the Centre for Research in Early Childhood in Birmingham and is a Vice President of Early Education. She received a Nursery World Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

Any courses offered can be tailored to suit your requirements and can be flexibly combined, or delivered over two or more sessions with gap tasks in between. They could be part of a project with a group of settings and/or schools or a local authority. All courses are a mix of input and active learning, enabling participants to gain new knowledge, work with colleagues, discuss concerns and reflect on practice in their own settings.
Helen also offers bespoke consultancy and project work which matches your needs and might involve supporting practitioner research or practice review and development.
