Vicky Hutchin

Vicky Hutchin

Early Education Associate

Vicky Hutchin’s work in early childhood education, began with working in playgroups, later becoming a nursery and reception teacher working in both primary and nursery schools. She took on her first advisory post in the mid-1980s for ILEA in the famous Bilingual Under Fives Team, then returned to work with the children in schools and then back into local authority advisory work as an Early Years consultant/adviser after a few more years of teaching. Vicky is passionate about getting the provision right for every child by providing motivating experiences, building on the children’s interests and enthusiasms, and keeping equality and fairness at the heart of what we do. In 2005 she joined the National Strategies Early Years Team just as the team was beginning to think about what the EYFS might look like – an exciting moment in time! In 2011 when the National Strategies came to an end, she became an Associate for Early Education and began working independently as a consultant, providing training and support on early years for schools and settings. She now runs training on early years pedagogy, assessment and more recently, returning to her roots around issues of equality, she is running training around the ‘British’ Values debate. She has written several books for early years practitioners and teachers on assessment and its central role in child central pedagogy and provision as well as on the EYFS more generally.
